The Effectiveness of Iranian-Islamic Spiritual Stress Management Therapy on the Satisfaction with Life in Women with Fibromyalgia

Aims: Life satisfaction is the attitude which people have towards their lives. This attitude is closely related to the welfare of humans. Regarding this, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Iranian-Islamic spiritual stress management therapy on the life satisfaction of women with Fibromyalgia.
Materials and Methods: The research was carried out in a semi-experimental design, with two-group randomized controlled trial (one experimental group and one control group), with three-stage (pretest, posttest and followup). Among the statistical population of women with fibromyalgia in Isfahan city, 30 patients were selected and randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. In addition to drug therapy, participants in the experimental group received an Iranian-Islamic spiritual stress management therapy in 12 sessions once a week, but control group participants received only drug treatment. All participants completed the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) in three stages of pretest, posttest and at the follow-up stage (45 days after posttest). The data of the research were analyzed by repeated measures analysis of variances.
Findings: The results of repeated measure analysis of variances showed that Iranian-Islamic spiritual stress-management therapy after intervention and follow-up had a significant effect on increase the life satisfaction. So, satisfaction with the life of women in the experimental group was significantly improved compared to the control group (p<0.01).
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, Iranian-Islamic spiritual stress management therapy is an effective method for increasing the life satisfaction in women with fibromyalgia. This finding has practical implications for future research pathways as well as clinical assistance to women with fibromyalgia.
