Effect of Logotherapy with Quran Recitation and Prayer on ‎Quality of Life in Women with Major Depressive Disorder

Aims: Major Depressive Disorder is one of the most common disorders in Iran. This research was conducted with the aim of evaluating the effect of logotherapy with Quran recitation and prayer on quality of life in women with major depressive disorder.
Materials & Methods: The present study is an applied research in terms of purpose, and semi-experimental pretest posttest with control group in terms of method. The statistical population of this study included all women with major depressive disorder, who were referred to psychological centers of Qom province in 2017. According to the research method, 30 women with major depressive disorder were selected, using voluntary sampling method and randomly divided into two groups (15 patients as experimental group and 15 patients as control group). Data collection tool was World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS 21, using descriptive and inferential statistics. To analyze the hypotheses, covariance analysis was used.
Findings: By controlling the effect of pre-test, in the post-test, the mean score of quality of life was significantly different between the experimental and control groups (p=0.01; F=26.01) and in the experimental group, it was higher than the control group.
Conclusion: Logotherapy with Quran recitation and prayer is effective in improving the quality of life of women with major depressive disorder.
